The WYAL was formed in 1994. Over the years, participation grew from a few baseball teams to include a significant number of baseball teams along with modest softball and basketball programs. Currently, competitive baseball for 16U to 19U players is the active program. The WYAL does not currently offer other sports or baseball for other demographic groups.
The WYAL is governed according to the WYAL By-Laws by a Board of Directors who are elected by the membership. The Board and designated officers manage the affairs of the organization. The Board, Officers, and coaches meet once a month. The meetings are open to all members and others who are interested in supporting WYAL teams.
Woodbury athletes who want to play a traveling sport should have the opportunity to do so in a manner that is consistent with their interests and abilities.
Athletes, coaches and families should be full participants in team formation and management. All participants must have an evaluation to be on a WYAL team. Evaluation information is shared with both participant and coach and serves as a resource for the participant's development plan, as well as a guide to help match participants with an appropriate level of competition.
Athletes, their families and coaches should strive for a positive experience emphasizing total development as a person as well as developing individual and team athletic skills.
The WYAL does not discriminate on the basis of age, gender, race, color, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sexual orientation or handicapped status for provision of services. Team formation is determined based on athletic ability and shared interest level by the participants, which is consistent with a team's desired competition level.
WYAL members and representatives are expected to respect the interests of opponents, game officials, city officials, tournament officials, league officials, other athletic service organizations, parents, fans, each other and anyone else who touches their WYAL experience.
The WYAL meets all the requirements set forth by the City of Woodbury for use of outdoor facilities and the Woodbury Community Services Organization for the use of indoor facilities.
